Parenting Kids with ADHD | 6 Week Group Program for Parents

October 22, 2021 @ 8:30 am - 10:00 am AWST

Parenting Kids with ADHD | 6 Week Group Program for Parents

Parenting and Promoting Growth in Kids with ADHD

Parenting can be joyful and fulfilling, but it can also be challenging and stressful. Parenting a child with additional needs is even more challenging, and for that reason specialised strategies are often needed.

ADHD WA are offering carers a 6-session group intervention focused on additional parenting strategies for ADHD, for those caring for a child who has a formal diagnosis of ADHD and the child is aged 6-12 years old.

This will be a highly practical group with between-session practice tasks, that we hope will be of great benefit to those who attend.

The focus is on raising awareness of ADHD behaviours, increasing the chances of desired behaviour, responding to challenging and undesired behaviour, and using rewards and quality time along the way.

  • Parenting kids who have ADHD
  • Minimum 6 and Maximum 10 carers
  • 6 session format starting Friday 22nd October
  • 1.5 hours per session from 8:30am to 10:00am
  • ADHD WA, The Niche, 11 Aberdare Road, Nedlands

Fees

The cost of the course is $620. This includes a $600 program fee and $20 for consumables.

Please note that the course fee is non-refundable, even if clients are unable to attend some sessions.

If the program does not commence due to the lack of participants, the client is fully refunded.

To participate in this program you must be a member of ADHD WA holding a Family Membership. You can become a member here.

Referral

If you feel that you would eligible for a rebate under Medicare Better Access Initiative due to mental health difficulties encountered in managing ADHD symptoms, then you could meet with your GP to discuss your eligibility for a Mental Health Care Plan and obtain a referral under the Better Access Initiative, namely group therapy item number 80120 for 6 sessions. If you are with a psychiatrist, your psychiatrist can simply refer you to the group program under the Better Access Initiative, namely group therapy item number 80120 for 6 sessions without a Mental Health Care Plan.

You will need to supply your referral letter from a specialist or a mental health plan and referral from a GP for Group Therapy, item no 80120. Participants without referrals are welcome to participate, however, they will be not be entitled to a Medicare Rebate.

Please note, Medicare requirements mean that a rebate only applies with a minimum of 6 and maximum 10 participants. If someone does not attend a session and the number of participants falls below the minimum requirement of 6, no participants are able to claim the Medicare rebate for that session.

Medicare Rebate

For those who have an eligible referral, a receipt for $100 will be emailed to each client on attendance at a session. These receipts can be used to claim a Medicare rebate per session attended. Please note that Medicare rebates cannot be claimed for sessions which the client does not attend and if the number of participants falls below 6 on any session, unfortunately, no participants are able to claim the rebate for that session.

Private Health Care

If you wish to access your private healthcare cover, please check with your provider if you are entitled to a rebate from your private health insurance policy for group therapy.

Fee Agreement

Registration and payment mean that I understand that I am expected to pay the course fee in advance of the start of the course, and I am not entitled to a refund for non-attendance. I further understand that receipts for the purpose of claiming Medicare rebates will be issued on a session by session basis, and will be not issued if for any missed sessions. I understand that it is the client’s responsibility to process Medicare claims. I also understand that due to Medicare requirements, if participants fall below 6 on any session, no participants in that session will be eligble for a Medicare rebate (for that particular session).
