LADS was officially opened in September 1993, following a year-long government sponsored research program which clearly demonstrated that services for those diagnosed with ADHD were inadequate, poorly co-ordinated and unable to cope with the demands placed upon them. It also highlighted the very poor levels of support and information that were available for people with ADHD.

The Hon Keith Wilson, who was Health Minister at the time, was our inaugural president, and Dr Christopher Green was our first patron. The tireless voluntary work of our founder, Wendy Mander, formed the backbone of LADS until 1999, supported by the Office coordinator, Professional Advisory Board, Management Committee and office volunteers.  After Wendy’s death in 1999 LADS re-grouped and volunteers came forward to offer their services to the ADHD community.  Having moved several times in the past we are now happily settled in the Neurological Council of WA facilities at The Niche in Nedlands.
