Our Board of Management, Professional Advisory Body and CEO have been hard at work advocating for the needs of the ADHD WA Community.

1. We met with Simon Millman MLA to continue the conversation around the shortage of paediatricians, long waiting lists and lack of support services to treat and diagnose ADHD. We discussed the role ADHD WA can play in supporting government to identify strategies to address this significant inability to meet the needs and demands of the community.

2. We have a meeting scheduled with Mike Rowe, Director General of the WA Department of Communities, to discuss how ADHD WA can support parents and carers, including also foster carers and foster families following our presentation and exhibition table at FCAWA’s 2023 State Foster Care and Kinship Conference in March.

3. We welcome the announcement of Senator Jordan Steele-John of a National Senate Inquiry into ADHD, particularly in adults, and look forward to contributing to the inquiry. Our Professional Advisory Body Chair and Management Board Member Dr Roger Paterson spoke to the ABC following the inquiry announcement to discuss the underdiagnosis and undertreatment of ADHD in Australia, and key areas of investigation and support needed.

4. We are awaiting the results of the WA State Parliamentary Inquiry into Child Development Services. ADHD WA was invited to a hearing on 12 December 2022. Since then, hearings have been ongoing with other individuals and organisations. You can keep up to date with the inquiry here
